Come Away!

Secret Garden

Song of Solomon 2:10 My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
11 For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;
12 The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land;
13 The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.
As I pondered what I would write for the blog this week, I was going through some artwork that I had painted. I thought I would post a picture of a painted six-foot blind with a garden scene that is one of my favorite paintings. By posting this painting it is not because I wanted to display my art work, but I simply wanted to share my “Secret Garden” painting with you. In the above scripture in Song of Solomon the Lord beckons to us to “Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away!” I often picture Him and me walking through a garden that is peaceful and beautiful. The scripture states in Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. So I feel it is important to have a place, a secret place that is all mine to where I can go and be with the Lord. Sometimes it’s just a place to escape and collect my thoughts.
I have a wonderful big front porch and I live in the country so it is not hard for me to escape. When the weather is nasty however, I have created a little nook area in my bedroom that has this painting on the wall. It is set up to be my office but it just makes me feel like I am entering a garden every time I go into this little area. I rise up early and go to the “Secret Garden” or if the mornings are not an option, I try my best to go after I put the children to bed. I escape into my little Secret Garden. Again, it is only a small little area, but to me it is so wonderful. I have found when I can go there and become quiet that I steal away with the Lord. I meet Him in the Secret Garden. While I am there, I feel his presence. I pray and receive answers to prayer. I often receive creative ideas for more artwork, or for books, poems and even songs. But, the most important thing I feel I gain is just a peace for my body, soul, and spirit.
I wanted to encourage you today. I know that every day is filled with responsibility and hectic schedules that have to be kept, however I hope that you will take the time to find a quiet place to escape to. I have a friend who took her walk-in closet and made her a secret place. Maybe you do not have that luxury or do not actually have an area in your home to make a secret place. As I talk with many people they have found creative ways to escape. For some, their vehicles become their secret place while on the way to work. For others, especially women, they enter their secret place as they light candles and relax in the bath, where ever you choose to go, I encourage you to go often. Let the Lord refresh you!
