Inner Peace!

2 Apr

Isaiah 26:3 (KJV) Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Lately, I’ve been writing several blogs about health and healing which focused mainly on the body, however, I feel that without having inner peace the body cannot be whole.  It is a documented fact that stress is directly related to many deadly diseases such as heart attack, high blood pressure, obesity, anxiety and depression just to name a few.   Stress is just the inability to find a safe zone of inner peace, however, not finding that place can put you at high risk!

I am a wife, a stay at home Mom that home schools two boys, a homemaker,  published author, artist, and weekly blogger!  When my life seems too hectic or busy, I personally have to find inner peace!  I realize that there are many ways that people do this, but for me I love to pray and meditate on the goodness of GOD!   My greatest joys are when I can sit on my porch early in the morning before the sun comes up and simply watch and listen to everything coming alive.  As the sun peaks over the horizon, it just reminds that today is a brand new day. Yesterday is gone, but I have another day to live!  I have another day to love the people that God has placed in my life and another day to use the talents that He has blessed me with!

As the birds sing their little songs to the Lord, I too have a song in my heart.  I begin simply by thanking Him for what He has already done for me.  Before I know it an hour has marched by and I have not even touched the surface of all He has blessed me with!  He is ever present with me and my time spent with Him is so precious!  This is how I become peaceful and relieve stress!   I can see so clearly all of the times that I struggled but that He showed up and helped me!   I shake off yesterday and look forward with anticipation to what will happen today.  God, never stops amazing me so I know that He only has more good for me!

As stated I try to meditate and pray in the mornings, but what happens on those days when I don’t get out there on my porch?  Below is a listing of some simple and practical suggestions that I found on the internet that may help relieve stress!  Many of these  work for me.   Some of them I’ve not tried but may the next time I feel overwhelmed and need some relief!

 1. Take a walk.

2. Relax in a long shower or bath.

3. Shopping! Just don’t make a habit of it.

4. It’s time to hang out with friends; either in person or by chatting online.

5. Chocolate, anyone? It always puts me in a good mood!

6. Get lost in a movie.

7. Catch up on your favorite TV show online.

8. Write a list, complete a few items, check them off, and then take a break. Repeat until you’re done.

9. Look at photo albums. Good memories help you to remember happier times.

10. Vacation! Go to the beach, the mountains, or your neighborhood park. It can last weeks, days, or even minutes (mental vacation: picture yourself at a glorious place).

11. Read a book, magazine, or a tweet. Anything that is entertaining and helps you to forget your troubles will do the trick.

12. Take a nap. If you don’t have much time, take a power nap: a well-spent 30 minutes!

13. Make time for your hobby. Write, act, sing, paint, or whatever else you do. Just do it whole-heartedly.

14. Think about the male or female that you’re interested in. Write them a love letter that you’ll give them later or keep to yourself.

15. Dance to your favorite song. Do it with abandon; you know, like no one is watching.

16. Go to a spa or, if you can’t afford it, make your bathroom into a spa. Just make sure to pamper yourself.

17. Take wacky pictures of yourself or of your friends. Not your thing? Take scenic pictures or make ordinary objects beautiful in some creative shots.

18. Sing karaoke. Sing in the shower. Sing in the car and wave to the person in the car beside you. Make sure he’s enjoying the show.

Would love to hear if these suggestions have helped you! Until next time, I hope that you have a blessed and stress free week!

Pathway of Healing! Jeremiah 30:17 (KJV)For I will restore health unto thee, and heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord

Trying new things are usually always exciting, but not often easy.  Many times we would rather stay in a comfort zone or routine where we are not really happy rather than try something different!  This week I am beginning  an 8 week course that is challenging me to think differently about nutrition and about lifestyle in general.  As a wife of thirty-five years and a mother of two, I have become very aware of the need to make drastic lifestyle changes.  I am a firm believer in complete healing, spirit, soul, and body!

Most people make changes by choice.   However, sometimes circumstances force us to make changes and choices that we were not prepared to make. For instance, just because we know to eat healthy and to exercise etc. doesn’t mean that we do or will.  However, when symptoms of sickness began showing up in the body, it suddenly becomes an alarm to seek change and hopefully make healthier lifestyle changes. I know that this blog is rather lengthy, but I am writing to sound an alarm so that maybe you the reader can make a choice for change, rather than have sickness and disease make the choice for you.  I am also writing this to share a very personal story that has had my family seeking new and better ways to live.  Life should not be drudgery, but rather a joy.  However, when sickness tries to dominate a member of the family it is a battle every day to fight for a life of joy!

One day in December 2007, my husband went outside to work on a truck of his that had something wrong with it.  As he had done many times before, he climbed underneath it.  However, this was a day that would change our lives forever.  As he lay beneath the truck, he felt something very strange like gushing water race through his body and hit his lungs!  It was all he could do to crawl out from beneath the truck and get into our home.  This day sent our family into a tailspin!  He of course immediately made a doctor’s appointment and was treated for Bronchitis’s.  He was given inhalers, and antibiotics that seemed to help.  But as soon as the antibiotics were gone, he was right back to where he was, if not worse. After that day, he could not take a deep breath into his lungs.  His oxygen count remained really low, especially when he would try to do anything physically. He became very weak and frail. We then embarked on a long journey of seeking a doctor that could find out what was wrong with him.

A long story shortened, we visited many specialists, many of which immediately through labels like COPD, or Obesity.  They placed him on oxygen and sent him home to die. One rude specialist basically told my husband that all of his symptoms was a result of being “Fat!” When my husband went back to see him for a checkup, he literally said “Oh, I am really surprised that you are still alive!”   Don’t get me wrong, my husband was obese, he knew this, but he had always been heavy.  Yes we knew that weight was an issue, but not the issue. My husband proceeded to lose fifty plus pounds and felt better but not well! In 2012 my husband was placed in ICU.  He had a battery of doctors to see him, and we honestly met a sweet and compassionate lung specialist that my husband still goes to.   However, when my husband goes for his checkups, the lung specialist listens to his lungs and has said, “It’s crazy, your lungs sound as good as mine!”  But still his oxygen count would drop every time he tried to move!

We finally went to a Holistic Naturopath at the recommendation of several friends we knew. She did a number of tests on my husband and found out that he had several food allergies!  Also that he was very toxic.  He had worked in a shoe factory for several years around many chemicals, and then went on to become a diesel mechanic where he not only handled diesel fuel on a daily basis, but also used chemicals in the parts washers etc.  So it made sense that it could be something to do with toxins, or allergies.  She began a detox regiment and advised him on what foods to avoid.  Immediately he seemed to improve, but still struggled with his oxygen count dropping.

Finally we have gone to an allergy doctor that also done a battery of allergy test to find out that my husband is allergic to many environmental things such as trees, pollens, molds, grasses, etc…Really things that you can’t change.  He is proceeding at the recommendation of the allergists to take allergy shots, which again has helped, but has not taken care of the issue of his oxygen dropping. Well I know that I wrote a very long story to simply get to this short point!  We are seeking answers that we know are out there for us. Many years of trying various things to find healing has gained us a lot of knowledge in natural approaches to healing and wellness.

As we learned to do certain things, we have implemented them to the best of our ability, to cause our whole family to be healthy.  We feel as though we have gained much wisdom and great strides.  We’ve learned that the body is a wonderful creation that God placed our spirits into.  We’ve also learned that given the right nutrient dense, natural and raw foods will cause many issues that occur in the body to be taken care of naturally which really gives us power!  Finally we have learned that as God has helped us time and time again in our pathway to healing, He has given us a desire and a compassion to help others along the way!

Happy Mother’s Celebration Day!

Happy Mother’s Celebration Day! I wanted to dedicate this blog to loving mothers, aunts, sisters, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, stepmothers, spiritual mothers, and fur baby mothers everywhere. If I left anybody out, sure didn’t mean to!
It is my opinion that Women are born to be ministers. We began our ministry at a very young age. We begin our training as we watch our own mothers, grandmothers, or possibly an older sister or aunt nurture and care for others. We are born caregivers. Being a Mother or a wife is the ultimate ministry as we minister to our families on a daily basis, and usually whoever else needs us. Sometimes we may think that it is a very thankless job. However, if you have ever received a tight hug around the neck from your child, or a quick peck on the cheek from Hubby in appreciation for something that you’ve done for them, let me tell you the job has rewards that no amount of money could replace!
Proverbs 31 (KJV)
10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
14 She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
I take the Scripture of the Proverbs Woman very seriously and I aspire to be like this virtuous woman described in the above scripture, but don’t you wish that you could just abandon yourself to a whimsical notion once in a while without feeling that your life and the lives of your family would just simply fall apart? Being a responsible person might be necessary, but it is not always fun! I toy with the notion, especially on Mondays as I go about doing another load of laundry, or dishes, or cooking my children lunch….What would happen if I just didn’t do these things! What would happen if I didn’t mop that floor? Or, empty that dishwasher? God forbid my family might have to learn to do something without me, Duh? Horrifying to think of!
I have found that the fear of not doing something is far worse than what would really happen if I did it! It’s not like my kids would starve or anything for goodness sake if I truly decided to take a day just for me! I came up “old school” as my cabinets are always well stocked. They know how to fix themselves peanut butter and jelly sandwiches which are always in the cabinet and refrigerator. It’s also not like they would ever be naked if I did not do my laundry every Monday morning! My floor can get nasty at times, but hey, my kids have never gotten glued completely to the floor! Isn’t it simply amazing how we weave ourselves so tight into the lives of our family that we as Mothers think the world would just cease to function if we took a day!
I truly do not think it is pride or arrogance on our part, just dedication! As Moms, we do have a sense of great accomplishment when our homes run like clockwork and everything smells fresh and clean. We do take solace in the fact that our children are well taken care of and that they rely on Mom. Especially when they love Momma’s cooking better than restaurant food! Yep, maybe I do swell up a bit, which makes the day to day, week to week routine all worth it! But I go back to the toying of the idea of a Mom’s Day! Whoops, I guess I was not the first one to toy with the idea, for there is indeed a day dedicated to Mothers! “Mother’s Day” is coming up this Sunday!
Yay! That means that Moms if you are reading this, that you can indeed take a day and enjoy doing it! This makes it is perfectly okay for Mom’s to do nothing for an entire day. Yahoo!!!! Kick up your heels! Lounge around on the couch like the rest of your family does! I think that I personally might request to actually hold the remote to the T.V.! Yay! Mother’s day makes it possible for Mom’s to be pampered and to be celebrated as that wonderful created being that God has created you to be! Go party my fellow Sisters and do it with abandoned joy!
