Thanksgiving Next Week Already?

Thanksgiving next week already?

celebrating-thanksgiving

I remember as a little girl that my Mom would tell me to quit wishing my life away!  Christmas would just end and I would wish spring would hurry up and arrive. Then, of course, I wanted summer to arrive so that we could swim and fish.  When summer rolled around I would wish for Thanksgiving and Christmas again.  When I was young, I would always wish for something else instead of enjoying where I was. This was my Mom’s point she wanted to make to me.  Time was ebbing away quickly and that I needed to enjoy life now, stop wishing for future happiness, find it now.

When I was a young girl, I had no concept of how fast time would fly by, even though my mom’s wisdom kept trying to slow me down.   However, now that I have been married for thirty-six years, have two boys, both growing up entirely too fast on me, I now try to savor every day!  And yes, here we are preparing to celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday again already!  It’s difficult to understand how fast this year has gone by.

You know life just happens at warp speed!  We are but vapors on this earth!  I now know because of what I’ve experienced in life that it is so important to enjoy the little everyday events because when you are older and reflect, those seemingly little events were the most significant, meaningful, events that make up our lives!

So, may I gently suggest, take my Mom’s advice.  Stop wishing your life away! Get about enjoying your journey now!  Stop and breathe in today and its seconds, minutes, and hours, because there is someone right now at the end of their journey on earth and the only thing they have left are their wishes!

So yes, Praise God Thanksgiving is here again!  I am thankful and so grateful that I have another year to spend with my family and friends and that I have a good life that I am living now!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Change of Season is Here!

Change of Season is Here!

autumn

I have several large Oak trees in the front and back of our house which are simply loaded with acorns!  Do you know what acorns sound like when they come showering down from these Oak trees onto a roof of a house or tin roofing?  Let’s just say before the foliage really turns brilliant colors, the acorns falling and pinging are always my sign that autumn is well on its way and that a change of Season is Here!

For the most part, I love the change in seasons in the natural as there are obvious signs everywhere, but do you know in our own lives, especially spiritually, when changes are coming we sometimes are taken by surprise.  Were there signs?  I believe sometimes there are obvious signs and then other times, the signs are a little more subtle.  How do you prepare for change? Or can you prepare for it?

I am a firm believer that nothing touches my life that is not filtered through God!  Yes that is a bold statement because face it we go through some pretty bad things!  God didn’t send those bad things to me, but if they come He helps me to navigate through all of it.

John 10:10 King James Version (KJV)

10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Have I ever questioned God as to why I’m going through this painful situation or why I had to go through them in the past?  Absolutely, but do you know when I look back I can always see that He was with me, even when I didn’t know Him or know He was at the time.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve gone through pretty painful things that I really thought were going to take me out, but I am still here!   Why?  Because someone may be reading this post right now that needs to know that this painful thing you are going through has come to pass.  Whether things are good or bad, they will always change!  Just like the seasons, they are only here for season.  This thing that is so painful or so joyful will eventually change into another season etc.  This is how life is, we go through seasons that are good, but then we go through seasons that are harsh like a winter full of blizzards that have totally left us wondering will our lives ever be “normal” again?  Will the landscape of my life that I once knew to be wonderful, ever be the same?  Life is all about change and how we grow through the changes.

Do I have all the answers? Absolutely not, and I dare not pretend that I do, however I honestly know the One who  is the answer and His name is Jesus.  I know that whatever season I have gone through, my relationship with Him has been an anchor for my soul. I have found that His words are true and that He is trustworthy.   I love Psalms 91 because the words in this Psalm have spoken to me many, many times to calm me and to keep me regardless of what season I am going through.

 Psalm 91King James Version (KJV)

91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

I pray that you will find peace, joy and comfort in this season for your Spirit, Soul (your mind, will, and emotions) and in your body, regardless of the season that you may be going through! This too shall pass!

Please feel free to comment, I would love to hear from you!

Thanks Giving Adventure

Thankgiving

As I begin writing my blog today, I realize that Thanksgiving is coming up very quickly! For many Thanksgiving is a time set apart with their families as they partake of a bountiful meal. They all may express what they are thankful for! I love this tradition as well and usually have a crowd of family and friends at my house every year for Thanksgiving.  However, along with the old traditions, I wanted to start a new tradition with my family leading up to Thanksgiving Day! So I declare the entire month of November to be Thanks Giving Adventure month!  I think we will do it much like an Advent Calendar.  We are beginning November 1, 2014 until Thanksgiving Day. Giving thanks to God and giving praise to Him is always wonderful, but this year we will not just be Giving Thanks with words, but with our deeds as well! My family will make the month of November an adventure month full of Giving!

As I think about it I am already excited!   Honestly it will be easy for my family to do as my children love to give!  They always want to bless others.  I have begun already preparing for November 1, 2014 as my children have outgrown several jackets and winter coats that are in very good condition!  I have gotten their jackets and coats as well as a couple of jackets of mine and my husband’s out of the closet and washed them up to donate!  I am encouraging my children to think of what we can physically do to show that we are so thankful to God that we want to share his goodness with others!

Below is just a small list of some of the things that we may do that we came up with! A lot of these will take a little money or time, however, there are a lot of things that I am sure we will do that does not cost us anything but a little effort!  The point is that we will go through the month of November with Giving Thanks as our purpose and see how exciting it will be!  I say exciting because I know that anything that you can do for others and ask for nothing in return is such a blessing!  But, you know what I have found out?  If we will be a funnel for God to pour through, He will keep pouring in to us so that we can continue to give!

  1. Donate good, clean, clothing.
  2. Make special goodies such as cookies, muffins, candies etc. to give away. I usually do this every year anyway as my specialty this time of year is pumpkin rolls.
  3. Something we like to do is clip restaurant coupons and if we can’t actually pay for someone’s meal at the restaurant than we can give them our coupons so that their meal is at least reduced.
  4. Donate a bag or two of food to your local animal shelter or if you know an elderly person who may be on a fixed income who has a pet, bless them with their pet a bag of food!
  5. Maybe donate non-perishable food to feed homeless.
  6. Donate shampoos, soaps, razors and bath tissue to single working Mom’s that you know  may struggle.
  7. Donate socks or blankets to homeless shelters

Most of these again, my family already does, but to know that we are purposing it for our Thanks Giving Adventure just makes us excited about doing more of it!  We are going to use our imagination and if we see something that we can do to bless someone then with God’s grace upon us, we are going to do our best to do it!

Happy Thanks Giving Month! I hope that this inspires you to possibly go on a Thanks Giving Adventure of your own!   God only knows who will be blessed more,  those you bless or you!
