A Rainy Day In Georgia!

A Rainy Day in Georgia!

Rainy dogwoods

Warning!!!!! Real life is “fixin” to happen in the South Ya’ll! As you continue to read, you will find that this post is much different from anything that I’ve posted before. Sometimes, I just have to shake myself and change things up a bit. Yesterday, at church, we had a guest speaker that challenged me with the truth of some things that I’ve known but neglected to practice.  He, of course encouraged us to believe and trust God for everything that we had need of especially healing, but something else he said struck a chord with me. My Check list below is truly my daily routine give or take a few things that need to be done on certain times or days, however, he quoted something yesterday that I’ve heard many times and even have preached it to others!

“If you want something different, you must do something different! If what you’re doing is not working, than you must try something else!”

Check: The alarm is blaring at 5:00 a.m. for my husband. Check: Thank the Lord for waking us up! Check: It is pouring rain outside and has been raining all night long, think I am just going to lie in bed all snuggled up and warm. Check: My husband hits snooze….Check: Awe, shoot, have to go to the bathroom! Check: Hit the ground running and now I am wide awake. Check: Want to go back to bed but must be a good wife and at least put hubby on some coffee. Check: Husband hits the ground rather slowly and is coughing horribly. Check: Let dog out, with much resistance on her part, as our Ivy Girl hates getting wet. Check: Feed and water our ornery cat Meadow. Check: Carry several cups of strong black coffee into the living room where the weather man is saying “Flood watches, more rain, possibly severe weather!” Check: Husband is not feeling well, still coughing. Check: He tells his boss he is not coming in today! Check: Okay, I am going back to bed after all… Yes!

As previously stated, it is a wonderful rainy Monday morning in Georgia! It’s now about 10:30 a.m. I am sitting at my kitchen table looking out the window where it has been raining all night and most of the morning. I am taking the time to just be grateful and thankful to the Lord. I had a random song in my brain when I woke up “Rockin Robin!” I have to admit I love the “oldies but goodies” as they say! Because the trees are newly budded out with little leaves and beautiful white dogwood blossoms of spring, everything outside my window looks like a gorgeous painting splashed with green paint with strikingly brilliant bright white highlights. I was just praising the Lord that if he could paint such a beautiful scene outside for me to view, there was nothing that he couldn’t or wouldn’t do for me and my family, especially my husband again he wasn’t feeling well! After I sat for a while and just simply worshipped the Lord, I began yawning again.

Although it is quite beautiful, I like many people on a rainy morning, really just wanted to crawl back into my warm bed again, pull the covers up over my head this morning and be lulled back into a deep sleep by the sound of the pounding rain. As stated above, I tried it once already, but as I lie there in my bed attempting to be lulled, I couldn’t shut my “to do list” out of my mind. Much like a flashing neon marquee my list was scrolling through my thoughts with what I needed to accomplish on this wonderful rainy Monday morning and so I pulled the covers back and began my not so glamorous life again!

Check: More coffee. Check: My first load of laundry has been taken out of the washing machine and placed into the clothes dryer. Check: Put dishes away with the exception of a pan that is soaking in the kitchen sink that had food stuck in it from yesterday’s dinner! Check: Hugged boys and said “Good Morning!” Check: Boys fed breakfast! Check: Homeschool is started. Check: I am tired already! Check: Stop watching the rain as it only makes me think of going back to bed! Check: I had a package from mailman that would not fit in our mailbox. Check: Grabbed a flannel shirt to try to cover up the fact that I was wearing my pajama’s as I went out to meet him! Check: Another load of clothes going in! Check: Time to get lunch started for the boys! Check: Take their orders like a waitress, which is my own fault for giving them a choice. Check: Make note to self, stop acting like their waitress, simply make them something and say Viola! Check: Writing my list of checks! Check: Probably boring my readers to tears but really hope that I am not! Check: Don’t blame you if you crawl back into a warm bed and pull the covers over your head! Check: Yay, for me something exciting and different is just now happening. Check: I am just about finished with my blog that is unlike most of my blogs I’ve written! Check: Shook it up a bit!

So forgive me for all of the liberties I have taken to be a real wife and mother with this post! I wanted to shake it up a bit… Let me remind you that I did give you warning that this blog was going to be much different from anything that I’ve posted before! Now, please do not get me wrong, my daily routine may not be full of excitement every day, however because I am a wife and mother, I look at what I do as a ministry to my family, which helps me to find joy! No, it is not all the glamorous life that I hope for as a writer, or as an artist, or even as an inspirational speaker, but I am grateful that this is my first ministry. I have a home, a husband that I’ve been married to for thirty-three years and two of the sweetest boys in the world. I have much to be thankful for! Although sometimes, I may wish that my life read like “Leave it to Beaver!” It doesn’t come close. It reads more like a Clint Eastwood movie, “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly!”

Because I am a writer this is where I find what I would consider my glamorous moments! I thank the Lord that I do have this blog that lets me escape occasionally out of my daily routine! Please note, I am not bashing my life, I love it, nor am I saying that being a wife or a mother is boring in anyway….God knows that every day is filled with new challenges.   I hope that regardless of where you are in life, that something that I might say will reach into your heart and help bring a smile to your face! I especially wanted to reach out to the wives and mothers today. I hope that you relate to what I am trying to convey. Our lives are hardly boring! Sometimes as the caregivers of our families, we need to have something new just for us! I want to cheer you on because what you do is so very powerful, you are ministers to your families and no one can do that job like you can! However, as a wife and a mother I find that I need to be ministered to as well! I hope this truly ministered to you!

Calling All Dreamers!

C. S Lewis quote
Dreams are meant to be walked out! But how? You might ask. My answer to you is One step at a time…

I heard the joke, how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!
Dreams for many of us are like elephants, way too big to fit anywhere in our lives. Our dreams are usually too big to swallow, too big to hide and shove down and way too big to fulfill on our own. Isn’t it amazing, though, that they fit perfectly in our imagination and heart. You can see them in everything you do and they are more real to you than anything else that you know. You desire it more than anything else, but still it seems elusive. The most miserable people I’ve met are those who have decided that their dreams were just too big and too crazy to go after them. I see them years later stuck in the same place using the excuse “I am too old now to ever fulfill my dreams!” Who put an age limit on our dreams?
You know that I found that my craziest dreams, meaning dreams that were as huge as elephants and dreams that seemed to be delusional and impossible were the very dreams that the Lord himself had birthed into my life. These are the dreams that I know I can’t fulfill on my own. These are dreams that I know that are not possible unless God makes provision, sets me up with divine appointments and connections and provides funds for me to do it. But I have great news for you! I am living out big dreams that are way larger than I ever imagined to be fulfilled. Writing this blog every week, although it may be small to some, is huge for me. This is a dream come true.
Other such dreams of mine are my books. I am not writing this as a promotion for my books, however I just want to encourage you. I have been able to publish three books, again maybe for some this may not seem like a big deal, but for me these were HUGE dreams of mine. I have about fifteen books completed. This is not something I came up with on my own. I feel very blessed by the Lord who I feel with all of my heart inspired every word of them. God totally provided me with what I needed to see them fulfilled. I will not go into all of the details about God’s miraculous provision, or how he made divine appointments for me. You know what I am talking about people want to call it “being at the right place at the right time” or “meeting the right person.” I know when I have holy encounters that were set up divinely. It wasn’t fate or dumb luck, No, it was my Heavenly Father providing for me so that I can fulfill my dreams which give him glory and points to his goodness…
Being an author is one such dream that I thought was so huge and impossible for me to obtain. However, here I sit with a number of books published. I just finished up another book that I am thrilled to say is the largest book I’ve ever written with the greatest number of words and pages. I am so excited to see how the Lord will use it!
Please do not take me wrong again I am not writing this blog this week to toot my own horn ora as a promotion, but to encourage you, the Dreamer, who may be reading this. I simply took one bite at a time and now I have got a good part of an elephant dream swallowed as far as actually writing and getting published. Going on the adventure of where the books will take me is another elephant dream and so on and so on, but one bite at a time, one step at a time with the Lord’s hand leading me, I’m swallowing hard and making great strides! I am sure that your dream may be altogether different from mine but if you desire it, why can’t you have it? If your dreams seem as huge as an elephant may I encourage you to simply take one tiny bite at a time! Eventually you will have an elephant dream swallowed and fulfilled! Frankly, what do you have to lose?
“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream!” ~C.S. Lewis

He Loves Me and He Always Will!

He Loves Me and He Always Will!

Daisy flower

While sitting out on my porch sipping my morning cup of coffee and listening to the birds sing their beautiful little songs, I was just rejoicing that it had warmed up enough to sit out there without freezing.   Even though there was still a chill in the air, the aroma of some of the blooms from the Pear trees rode the gentle breezes and brought a smile to my face. I thought about how some of the simplest things are what pleases me the most. I was noticing some small little daisies growing wild and was thinking about the little game that we use to play with the daisy petals. Have you ever pulled the petals off of a daisy and played the game “He loves me, He loves me not?”

One day not long ago when I was sitting outside enjoying myself, my children came running outside and grabbed me by the arm and began pulling me inside. They were obviously so excited to show me something. Anyway, I didn’t want to burst their little bubble so I followed in anticipation as to what they wanted me to see. They lead me into my bedroom where they had  cleared an area that I kept pretty cluttered with books etc and had made a nice little seating area for me to enjoy. They knew what I liked and so they arranged some of my favorite things around this little area. I was so surprised and just extremely overwhelmed that my boys wanted to show me how much they loved me by doing something so special.

As I thought about how much they wanted to bless me and please me, I thought about how that I could possibly be pleasing to others. Without trying to be preachy or too corny, the best way I know is to simply let the love of our Father God show through me. I hope this blog is one of those little ways! As I pour my heart into what I feel the Lord would have me to write today, it is simply that He loves you. He cares about every concern that you may have today, whether it is small or huge!

(KJV) Psalm 138:8 The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.

It doesn’t matter to Him what you do, or do not do. You are a beautiful work of his hand! He chose to love you. You can’t pull petals off of His daisy and ever find one that says “He loves me not!” You can’t earn his love! He just lavishes it upon you freely every day. You might be saying “Hey lady, I don’t know what you’re talking about? My life is in the dumps right now! How could anyone possibly love me when I am like this?”   I would say to you, that you’re the very one he wanted to speak to today, “I love you with an everlasting love, even when you think you are unlovable!” He says.

(KJV)3: 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

One of the greatest things that I found about the love of God is that he purposely came for those who didn’t have their acts together! There are days when my life is just out of control and I am very unlovely in my behavior, but I have found that I have a place to run to! I run to my Father, His arms are always open. His arms are safe and they feel wonderful! His love is inexhaustible Will you just fall back into his loving arms and let him love you today? I hope that you will! As you tear the petals off of your daisy today, all you will ever hear Him say, “I love you and always will, I love you and always will!”

Walking on the Water!

"Come, Walk on the Water with me!"

“Come, Walk on the Water with me!”

Have you ever noticed that when good things start happening to you that others will gather around and cheer and celebrate? But, how many of them stick around when you are going through struggle? Isn’t it amazing that many times the people who you thought would celebrate with you suddenly disappear. Well, friend this is the time that you have to learn to encourage yourself. Yes it is great to have cheerleaders to cheer you on, and I thank God I actually have a few sincere cheerleaders, however, more times than not, the cheerleaders are nowhere to be found or heard. Then what do you do? This is when you must learn how to encourage yourself in the Lord. You must learn how to be your own cheerleader and to throw your own pep rally!
David had to encourage himself in the Lord and dance his own dance, shout his own cheers and rejoice even when others were not to be found. I have been there many times it seems. Not that there were not people who I could confide in, but sometimes I had places to walk in my journey that I feel I’ve had to walk by myself. How else do you learn the Lord’s voice and know his leading. I found it is just the nature of people sometimes to jump on board the ship when they can go with you, but the moment you cross over into a place that is unfamiliar and uncomfortable to them, they abandon the ship in a quick hurry! When this happens, I know that the enemy will come immediately and try to convince you that you’ve missed GOD. He lies to you by telling you that you should just quit and do what everyone else is doing. He tells you that you’re too radical and that no one understands you. This is where you have to make a choice. You either, decide to take a stand, set your face like a flint, and say to yourself and to the enemy of your soul, though none go with me, I’M GOING! Or….You may listen to the lie and give up and go back to the familiar and to the crowd.
Matthew 14: 28-“Lord if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus
30. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
The Lord never intended for us to stay in the boat with the crowd. Frankly, He doesn’t want us to be crowd pleaser either! He intended for us to walk on the water and step out into the deep things of GOD. I refuse to stay in the boat and go through the motions of “acting like a Christian.” No, I may be out here at times by myself in a place that’s unfamiliar but this is where life is. This is what makes it exciting to be a Christian! This is also where I learn who the Lord is and how he wants to direct me and use me. I may even began to sink , as Peter did, when I get out of the boat, but I’ll get out again and again until I don’t sink and the water is solid under my feet. There may be those who are laughing at me, just like I am sure the other disciples who stayed in the boat laughed at Silly Peter, but which of them got to stare into the gaze of the Master and have Him to stretch out his hands to them? Only Peter got to have that experience while the others sat in the boat! Yes some may call me radical but I long to see the Lord’s gaze and have Him to reach for me and bid me to come! I want to be brave and get out of the boat, even if I have no supporters in the boat to cheer me… I will say to the Lord, “I’m coming Lord, I’m coming!
I write this blog today to cheer you! Come on you can do it! Whatever the Lord is asking you to do; He is extending his hand to you and saying “Come trust me!” He will never let you sink! Although Peter may have taken his eyes off Jesus for a brief moment, notice that the in Matt. 14:30 Peter was only beginning to sink when the Lord saved him….Be encouraged, He will not let you sink either, go for it! I would rather get out of the boat and try then to sit in the boat and always wonder if I could have done something differently!

Isaiah 64:8 But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

Baby-Cardinal-in-Hands_iab

Can you guess what kind of bird this is? Below are several hints:

  1.  It is the official bird of at least 7 states.
  2. These birds do not migrate, but have adapted to northern and southern climates.
  3. They frequent birdfeeders
  4. Unlike some birds both female and male birds sing.
  5. The male bird has  a brilliant red color and the female is an attractive brown
  6. A baseball team has been named after them!
  7. They usually have three eggs at a time.
  8. The male often feeds the female especially when she is on the nest.

Have you had enough hints to guess the type of bird? If you guessed the Cardinal you are correct.  I wanted to put this little homely looking bird up as a visual lesson, because all too many times we look on the outside of a thing and judge it before we even know what is on the inside. While looking at this little gray mass of feathers with its little pump knot, it is hard to believe how something so unattractive could become something so beautiful! This bird in my opinion is one of the most brilliant and beautiful birds.  When it comes to my birdfeeder or sets in a blooming dogwood tree, my breath catches in my throat for a second because it is so exquisitely gorgeous! When it sings its song, I have to stop and think about the many songs that the Lord gave his creatures to sing his praise!

I know that when people look at me, they may not see beauty, but please don’t judge me yet!  God is not finished with me. Like this little bird, I may not be the most attractive thing, but what the Lord is making me into is breathtakingly beautiful!  You may say, “well that is a very conceited thing to say!”  But I say unto you, I am on the Potter’s wheel, I am being made into his image and his image is indeed perfect and beautiful! You too are on His wheel!

7.Jeremiah (KJV) 18:2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.

8.Jeremiah 18:3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.

9.Jeremiah 18:4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

6.Isaiah 64:8 (KJV)  But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

We all have our flaws and according to the scripture we are made to be marred in the Potter’s hand!  Why? I think we all have flaws so that we will not be judged by others! This truth puts us all in the same boat if you will!  We all have need of the Perfect One Jesus! If we find out whom we are in Him and that we are made in His image and began walking in that calling or purpose, we are just like these gorgeous Cardinals.  Our life becomes a song of praise to the Master!  So don’t judge me yet!  God’s not through with me! I am spinning on the wheel being made into another vessel that will hold His glory!

I hope that the next time you see a beautiful Cardinal or hear its song of praise to the Master that you will realize that you are a precious vessel of clay in the Potter’s hand and that regardless of what you are going through, that you are valuable.  You’re his greatest creation created in His image!  You are being changed from faith to faith and from glory to glory!
