I have found that the most successful times in my life have been when I wasn’t focused on what I literally could see in the mirror! Let me explain, if I only see myself as a reflection in the mirror, I never see the real me. I can dress the outside up and present an image to my friends and family, but that still doesn’t show them who I am. I think the best advice I can give anyone who is wanting to be successful is to simply find out who you really are! Not the person the world tells you that you are, not even who you see when you look into your own mirror but who does the Creator, the one who made you say that you are?
Proverbs 23:7 (KJV)As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he
To accomplish anything we must see ourselves as a victor, not a victim! God has purposed us to do great things on the earth! He has a purpose behind everything that is in His Word, so if we apply it to our lives we will see the results that His Word promises. In order to achieve our goals, we must change our behavior in the past. We can’t be winners if we keep seeing ourselves as losers! So I ask again how do you see YOU? We must have a renewed mind to know what hindered us in the past and how to press in to achieve success now. I believe the scripture below is a great starting point to begin to see a change in our lives and to see our goals being reached.
Romans 12:1 (KJV) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
My number one goal for myself and even to help my Spiritual Midwife for clients is to get rid of “stinking thinking!” I must put the Word of God before my eyes and get His image of who He has created me to be on the inside of me. If I operate from a renewed mindset, then I can see myself achieving all that He has called me to do! This is not a conceited or boastful stance, but instead, it is a humbling position. I place all of my hopes, dreams, goals in His hands and totally rely on Him to co-labor with me to achieve each and every goal! This is exciting because He has never set us up to fail!
If you are repeatedly working very diligently, and it seems that you’re always falling short of the goals you want to achieve, maybe it is because you have a mindset that is setting you up for failure. If you desire change and if what I am speaking to you sounds true, I have an action step that I do myself and that I know will help you. If you seriously desire to see yourself successful and are as diligent about doing this action step as you are about doing the rest of the work God’s Word will produce what it says and you will see results!
Why or How? My answer is that His Word which is the truth, will break off old mindsets and open your eyes to How the One who created you, designed you for success in every area! Will it work just by reading it one time? Probably not! I say that because you will have to put it in your heart until it produces what the Word says! This is called faith!
ACTION STEP: Go to the Word of God which is the BIBLE to find how who you are. The Word will show you what He. God the Creator, says about you and your future.

Part 38 If Oak Trees Could Talk! Hello Everyone, I am so glad that you chose to join me again on my Video Blogs of my Romance/Suspense Novel If Oak Trees Could Talk! I love all the new people that…
Thank you once again for reading along with me or “tuning in” each week to If Oak Trees Could Talk! Occasionally I’ve been doing other blogs along with this one to break it up a bit, so I am grateful if you have stuck in here with me. This was a trial run on doing Video blogs and of course, I picked the longest book that I’ve written to do it. However, I’ve enjoyed it and really hope that you have as well. We pick back up in Chapter 17 The Tyrant!
Chapter 17
The Tyrant!
Mr. Hodges still glaring into Amelia’s eyes realized that she meant exactly what she was telling him. He cleared his throat once more and began to walk away. “Stay here and I will direct the staff to prepare another suite immediately!”
“Oh and Mr. Hodges, it had better be top-notch, clean and updated with a bright clean décor. It must also have a window or windows that will let real light into the room. Honestly, Sir, I am expecting a freaking honeymoon suite!” Amelia demanded in light of her obvious victory as Mr. Hodges stomped away down the long hallway until he disappeared.
Amelia took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down before she went back into the room with her parents. She trembled as she had truly comforted evil itself. Finally she walked back into the horrible room. With a gentle smile she proceeded to usher her parents out of the room into the hallway.
“Mr. Hodges is making something better available for you.” Amelia stated. He realized how dismal this room was and decided that he would give you a fresher, more updated suite,” Amelia stated rather calmly, even though she was still trembling inside. She then got in the middle of her parents and began escorting them slowly to the front of Glenview from where they had been ever since they both were admitted into Glenview. As she walked along beside them a fear of more retaliation came over her. What did Mr. Hodges plan to do to her parents now?
Mr. Hodges still furious over the confrontation with Amelia, rounded the corner to the nurse’s station where Nurse Wanda stood doing paperwork. He meandered slowly up to her and with cold and calculating eyes whispered, “Nurse Smith, I regret to inform you that Glenview’s Residential Home for the Elderly no longer has need of your services. You are dismissed immediately. You may collect your belongings and leave post haste, please. I will mail to you the remainder of your compensation owed. Thank you.”
Mr. Hodges simply smirked as he knew that Nurse Wanda was the only one who could expose any of the plans that he had for Mr. and Mrs. Tyler. He felt rather proud of himself that there was one less person that would spoil his plans for the rebellious Tyler couple. He also felt that she probably had already warned Mrs. Steele about his threats to treat Henry with medicines to control him, but if there is no witness to the crime than he could quite possibly even get by with murder. He smiled as he imagined himself and Amelia in a boxing ring. He chuckled as he felt that he just dealt a hard blow to Mrs. Steele by firing Nurse Smith. It may not be the knockout blow, but it was enough to let her know who she stepped into the ring with, he thought.
“Mr. Hodges, you can’t be serious?” Nurse Wanda stated. “Surely you can’t be serious about this. I’ve been here at Glenview for nigh on thirty years, where else is there for me to go to in Mason Creek? Please Mr. Hodges, I beg of you, don’t do this!”
“There is no refuting the dismissal, Mrs. Smith. Please go now before I have you physically removed!” Mr. Hodges ordered.
“Well, have me physically removed then! I weigh about three hundred pounds so you better bring in your best to try it, Sir! I am going to have my say Mr. Hodges. I am not leaving here lesson I get to say good-bye to all of my patients, some I’ve had for ten, fifteen years maybe longer.” Nurse Wanda said as she stood her ground.
“Mrs. Smith, I’ve already got the Sheriff coming to remove you, now do you really want this to become ugly?” Mr. Hodges continued to whisper.
“Ugly, who is the ugly one here, Mr. Hodges? Yes I am going to fuss and yell because you are a devil who likes to inflict pain and torment. Don’t think I have not seen the goings on around here! I’ve kept quiet because I thought at first I was just imagining things, but when you told me about Mr. Tyler and what you intended on doing to him, yes Sir, you exposed your evil self to me! After I got to thinking about what you told me that you were going to do to Mr. Tyler, I began thinking about other patients that were doing so much better when all of a sudden they just had a relapse! What caused that relapse Mr. Hodges? It was you that was behind those dear patients’ relapses! I promise you Mr. Hodges, I will no longer be quiet!” Nurse Wanda shouted as she came out around the nurse’s station where she was going to go see some of her patients including Henry.
All of a sudden the doors opened and in walked Sheriff Eugene Perkins. He left his sheriff’s car running with siren blaring and lights on in the front entrance. He had intended on putting Nurse Wanda in the car very quickly if she didn’t leave on her own. Eugene was all red faced when walking through the door for Nurse Wanda, for like Ms. Amelia, Nurse Wanda was also a longtime family friend to his parents. He never liked arresting friends but the town where he was a sheriff was small, unfortunately for Eugene, everybody knew everybody. Just about everyone he arrested was at least an acquaintance if not a close friend to either Sheriff Eugene or his parents.
When Nurse Wanda saw Sheriff Eugene walk in, she stopped her rampage for a brief time long enough to scold him like she would one of her own children. When he was little she babysat him many times, so she felt like she had the right.
“Seriously, Eugene, you are here to arrest me? Um, um, what would your Momma and Daddy say? I’ve put powder on your behind, Boy! You’ve not got anything that I haven’t already seen. Why you want to go and get all mixed up with Mr. Hodges for? He’s going down, Eugene! He is medicated the patients here to keep them here longer and to extract more money out of them. The Good Lord only knows what other horrible things he’s done to these poor helpless folks. He is an evil man Eugene. I hate to see you go down with him because you’re all power hungry. Boy you’ve been raised better than this! I hate to think of the shame that you’re going to bring to your pour Momma, bless her pour little heart!”
Just when Nurse Wanda had begun speaking Amelia and her parents popped around the corner. They too heard all of the commotion. However, it did not take Amelia long to figure out what had happened. When she looked over at Mr. Hodges he wore a smirk of victory on his face. It was sickening to Amelia. She wasn’t going to stand and do nothing!
“Arrest her, Sheriff Perkins, do your job!” Mr. Hodges ordered as Nurse Wanda’s shouts had alerted many of the residents and their guest to the commotion that she was raising. Pretty soon the hallway filled up with spectators to watch and to listen to what was going to happen next. It was a real show for many of the residents. Nothing as exciting as this event had ever happened to them since they came to Glenview. Many of them who were in their right minds knew all along that Mr. Hodges was an evil man. To save themselves, several patients acted as though they were mentally challenged and senile to prevent him from keeping them in a medicated state. They wanted to hear and see if anything was going to be done about him?
“Okay, folks back into your suites, everything is fine here! No cause for alarm! Go back now to your suites!” Mr. Hodges demanded. The last thing he wanted was for the patients visitors to hear that he may have some shady dealings when it come to their loved ones being placed in Glenview.

With early signs of spring bursting forth out of the ground, I can’t help but think of newness! This very morning while sitting on my front porch, it was Sixty degrees. Even though it was raining this morning in Georgia, the change in the weather was beckoning me to go outside and enjoy, which I did thoroughly. It amazes me how that when summer is ending and autumn temperatures fall into the Sixties the air feels so cool, but after a long winter the Sixty degrees of early spring feels warm and inviting!
I filled my coffee cup, threw on my hoodie and parked myself in my rocking chair. I simply sat quietly and thanked the Lord for the sound of the rain on the roof, but soon while sitting there, I listened and watched as several different kinds of birds rushed in to my newly filled bird feeder, took a seed and chirped as if they were saying “Thanks Lady!” I also saw a Robin this morning which is always a wonderful sight to see. The gentle clinking of my wind chimes combined with the sound of the rain and the chirping birds made a beautiful harmonious glad song.
Something familiar began to bubble up inside of me that reminded me of when I was expecting my children. The expectation of something new and exciting was rising up! It was an overwhelming feeling that made me know that a change is on its way!
Isaiah 43:18-20King James Version (KJV)18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert
Many people do not like change, but we are always going through seasons in our lives! Some seasons bring more change than others, but regardless, God never wants us to become so comfortable that we stop expecting to see His goodness! We are to go from faith or faith and from glory to glory! When we give up on expecting new things we become stagnant and critical of others. We revert back to an orphan spirit. Although we may never verbally say it, when we see others blessed we think that God loves them more than He does us. God never withholds anything good from his children. He’s made everything available. If He led the Israelites to a land flowing with milk and honey, how much more does He have for us? But like the Israelites, we have to stop looking back and move forward in order to walk in God’s best!
Let me encourage you my friend when the Lord walks you through change, it is always good for you! Let the deadness of winter fall away. Expect to feel the warmth of the Father’s love embrace you and gently usher you into the newness He has for you. Get excited about the change and expect to see His goodness, I know that He will never disappoint!
Isaiah 64:8 But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
Can you guess what kind of bird this is? Below are several hints:
It is the official bird of at least 7 states.
These birds do not migrate, but have adapted to northern and southern climates.
They frequent birdfeeders
Unlike some birds both female and male birds sing.
The male bird has a brilliant red color and the female is an attractive brown
A baseball team has been named after them!
They usually have three eggs at a time.
The male often feeds the female especially when she is on the nest.
Have you had enough hints to guess the type of bird? If you guessed the Cardinal you are correct. I wanted to put this little homely looking bird up as a visual lesson, because all too many times we look on the outside of a thing and judge it before we even know what is on the inside. While looking at this little gray mass of feathers with its little pump knot, it is hard to believe how something so unattractive could become something so beautiful! This bird in my opinion is one of the most brilliant and beautiful birds. When it comes to my birdfeeder or sets in a blooming dogwood tree, my breath catches in my throat for a second because it is so exquisitely gorgeous! When it sings its song, I have to stop and think about the many songs that the Lord gave his creatures to sing his praise!
I know that when people look at me, they may not see beauty, but please don’t judge me yet! God is not finished with me. Like this little bird, I may not be the most attractive thing, but what the Lord is making me into is breathtakingly beautiful! You may say, “well that is a very conceited thing to say!” But I say unto you, I am on the Potter’s wheel, I am being made into his image and his image is indeed perfect and beautiful! You too are on His wheel!
7.Jeremiah (KJV) 18:2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
8.Jeremiah 18:3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
9.Jeremiah 18:4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
6.Isaiah 64:8 (KJV) But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
We all have our flaws and according to the scripture we are made to be marred in the Potter’s hand! Why? I think we all have flaws so that we will not be judged by others! This truth puts us all in the same boat if you will! We all have need of the Perfect One Jesus! If we find out whom we are in Him and that we are made in His image and began walking in that calling or purpose, we are just like these gorgeous Cardinals. Our life becomes a song of praise to the Master! So don’t judge me yet! God’s not through with me! I am spinning on the wheel being made into another vessel that will hold His glory!
I hope that the next time you see a beautiful Cardinal or hear its song of praise to the Master that you will realize that you are a precious vessel of clay in the Potter’s hand and that regardless of what you are going through, that you are valuable. You’re his greatest creation created in His image! You are being changed from faith to faith and from glory to glory!
Luke 12:32 (KJV) Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
As I write this, I was thinking about the past few weeks and how the Lord has just blessed my family beyond anything that we really asked him to. I also thought about people who are still waiting for their promise to come. Sometimes when it seems the Lord is passing out to everyone but to them, something just sort of rises up in them and mumbles, “Wait a minute, why am I not getting blessed? They are asking the Lord, “When is my season going to come?” I know about those questions because I’ve been there, and I have asked them myself. The one thing I’ve really learned, however, is that it is all available to me and has always been available. I don’t want to get upset because others are getting theirs and totally miss mine because I’m off pouting somewhere. My Pastor calls a pouting mentality an orphan spirit. If I am a child of God then all that He has is mine! I’ve learned to rejoice with others, because I know that the same blessings are available to me!
When the prodigal son left the Father’s house to go and “live it up and waste what his Daddy gave him” He had to come to a place of realization. He had to realize that regardless of what he did or didn’t do the Father’s love was enough and that he could go home to the blessing. His older brother, however, was upset that the Father would just welcome the prodigal son back home and throw him a party, kill the fatted calf, put a ring on his finger, give him His best robe…Why? The older brother didn’t realize that all of it had been available to him all along. The eldest brother could have lived in a perpetual party, but he let envy and bitterness rob him from receiving the blessing of the Father. How sad it will be that many Christians will get to heaven and only then find out what was made available to them while they lived upon the earth, but they never received it because of envy and jealously.
When Jesus bled and died, He said “It is finished!” So everything is available to us, but not all things are entrusted to us right away. Like the prodigal son had to go through some character building lessons, so do we. My son would love to have a mustang car, he is only 13. Do you think I will give him a mustang car now? NO WAY….Why? Because he is a child and he is not mature enough to handle a mustang…Many Christians are still childish and they are not mature enough to handle all that they want from the Lord. As the above scripture states, Luke 12:32 (KJV) Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. The Father is not withholding from you, but maybe he is protecting you long enough for you to build up a strong character, that whatever you want from him will not destroy you, but will benefit you!
