We Must Do the Work!

Well here we are almost at the end of January, I was just wondering if you’ve made any resolutions at the beginning of the year? If so are you still working on them or have you already grown discouraged and gave up on meeting them this year?  I know how exciting it is to make New Year’s resolutions during such an emotional high!  However, when all of the celebrating and partying is over the real work must begin.  For many of us, we totally regret ever making those resolutions during the hype of all of the emotional clichés.

I am not writing this to try to discourage you further.  I am writing instead to encourage you to do the work.  Yes it is hard and grueling, but it is well worth every effort!  Do you know why?  Because when you made the resolution, emotionally or not, there was something that you wanted or desired on the inside so much that you said it out loud!  I am here to celebrate with you again!  Let’s pretend like the “ball” just now dropped at Time Square!  Do you remember the power you felt inside as the ball had dropped less than a month ago? Well feel that power again! It is what will spark your hope that you could make changes, dream new dreams or set new goals?  It is still with you, you haven’t lost it!  I am here to help you fan the flame as it were to cause the spark to erupt into a full blaze!  Come on you can do this thing!

Just wanted to give a brief update, my number one goal or resolution was that this year I wanted to do something with all of my stories “books” that I’ve written and left buried in my computer document files for many years?  I had to ask myself “what are you waiting for?”  So I began editing three of my stories and decided to do a little short story book entitled Mazy’s High Flying Adventure!  I am so excited to say that I finished the book and it is already available on Amazon, etc.  NO this is not a sales pitch where I am trying to sell my books, but I wanted to simply share that in order for our dreams to come, we have to put in the work! Even though I had already worked hard at writing the stories, to turn them into an actual book meant some long nights of editing, cropping pictures, etc.  Whether we feel like it or not, we must dig inside and find the reason that we desired to reach the goal in the first place.  I’ve just begun, but wanted to start my year off with success as soon as I could so that I could encourage myself to continue on!

I just wanted to encourage you to shake off all of the doubt and discouragement and go forward! Finish one of the goals that may take the least work so that you can see a measure of success! Prioritize!  Maybe you’ve been trying to do something to reach your goal that isn’t quite working!  Hey I’ve been there and done that many times, but the main thing is that you don’t give up on your dreams because what you tried didn’t work.  Go for it at another angle, or a different way!  The old adage “where there is a will, there is a way” applies here.  Come on my friend you can do it! I can hear the fireworks of celebration can you?

If Oak Trees Could Talk! Inspirational Romance/Suspense

If Oak Trees Could Talk
Inspirational Romance/Suspense

If Oak trees could talk, what stories would they tell? If she was the old Oak tree that loomed over Henry William Tyler’s side yard for well over a century, she would have more than enough interesting stories to tell. Maybe she would tell a humorous story about the time that Henry as a little boy helped himself to some fireworks from Mr. Harper’s truck that turned out to be explosives. That was one Fourth of July that Mason Creek didn’t soon forget! Henry ran like a scared rabbit and climbed up into the Oak tree’s outstretched branches until the smoke cleared. Or, maybe the Oak would tell more of a sweet romantic story of a nine year old Henry meeting Helen Elaine Myers. He knew at nine years old when he pushed her in his swing that hung from the Oak tree that he was going to marry that little blue eyed, blond haired gal someday! Unfortunately all stories told by the old Oak tree cannot always be humorous or romantic. When Helen, the love of Henry’s life winds up in a nursing home, Henry becomes heartbroken and lonely. Unfortunately, in order to deal with his emotions, he develops temporary amnesia and winds up in the same nursing home. The couple, determined to leave Glenview’s Residential Home for the Elderly will do anything to resume their passionate pursuit of love and reclaim their lives. Henry discovers a key to unlocking his memory bank by revisiting the old Oak tree in his mind, as well as a few other unexpected ways. Who better to help him find his way home than the old Oak who knew all there was to know about Henry?

Ready…Set…Focus!

Well the New Year is off and moving right along and so am I.    It is amazing that next week it will have already been a month since we celebrated Christmas, which only tells me that it’s time to get focused so that this can be a banner year!

It is amazing to me how many times I’ve made the same missteps over and over again because I never had my focus on the right things. I would set goals, but run out of steam to accomplish them.  I would then take lots of time trying to figure out why I couldn’t achieve the goal.    The first thing that must happen in trying to set any new goal is to make for sure that we are focused on the right things and for the right reasons!

We’ve been learning about a renewed mind in our church services.  It has really come at a good time as the teachings have really helped me to see why I have reached goals in the past.

Proverbs 23:7 (KJV)As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he

To accomplish anything we must see ourselves as a victor not a victim!  God has purpose us to do great things upon the earth!  He has purpose behind everything that is in His word, so if we apply it to our lives we will see the results that the word promises.  In order to achieve our goals we must change our behavior of the past. We can’t be winners if we keep seeing ourselves as losers!  We must have a renewed mind to know what hindered us in the past and how to press in to achieve them now.  I believe the scripture below is a great starting point to begin to see change in our lives and to see our goals being reached.

Romans 12:1 (KJV) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

My number one goal for 2015 is to get rid of “stinking thinking!” I must put the word of  God before my eyes and get His image of who I am in Him  on the inside of me.  If I operate from a renewed mindset, then I can see myself achieving all that He has called me to do!  This is not a conceited or boastful stance, but instead it is a humbling position.  I place all of my hopes, dreams, goals in His hands and totally rely on Him to co-labor with me to achieve each and every goal!  This is exciting to me because He has never set us up to fail!

I would love to hear about how the Lord has helped you to  accomplish your goals this year!  Please feel free to contact me so that we can rejoice together!

Resolution-A Call to Action!

stainless steel trash can

Luke 6:45 (JKV) For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Okay, I am going to just cut right to the chase! I realize I may lose some people right here, but I hope that you will take the time to read the whole entire blog!  A life full of happiest and contentment comes with a great price, but if you have not first resolved to know Jesus Christ who paid that greatest price for you, I pray that this will be your first resolve, your first step toward the resolutions that you make in the year of 2015!  The second resolve is to get to know Him! Resolve to get into His word which is the Bible and find out How much He loves you, what He has to say about you and how He wants  to help your situation.  He is the answer and his word is a light to guide you in the right direction!  He desires more than anything to be a part of your life, regardless of how messed up you may think it is! He is a loving and wonderful Master in our Mess!

Okay, with all of the above said, you may think it strange that I would have Scripture from the Bible and a trash can in the same blog, but I inserted the “pretty little purple trash can” to make a point! That although the trash can is all dressed up and looks like a designer’s special on the outside, it still holds trash! Regardless of how pretty the color, how sleek, or thin, it still holds trash.   Now that we are taking steps into a brand new year, many of us have made resolutions in hopes of changing something in our lives for the better.   We wish we could lose weight, we wish we could get that new promotion, make more money, or we wish we could be a better person etc…Well frankly we can wish all we want, but a resolution is not simply a wish, it is a call to action by faith!  If we truly want change it must be in our hearts to want to do something to affect change!  How many times do we make the same resolution year after year but in a week or two, we have moved on because we feel hopeless that true and permanent change will ever come?

If you are one that makes the same resolutions year after year, obviously you have identified areas in your life that you want to change or need to be changed. You have actually made the first step, which is to be brutally honest with yourself and say “yes I need a change.” In order to stop wishing to change you must on purpose resolve or began action to implement change.  No I do not have a blueprint, or a formula to implement change, I only know that nothing happens if the first step is not made, than the second, third etc.   If you do not make the first step, then you remain in the same place…You cannot get somewhere if you do not move….THIS IS A CALL TO ACTION!

Webster’s online definition of resolution:

1.The act, operation, or process of resolving.  2. The state of being relaxed; relaxation.  3. The state of being resolved, settled, or determined; firmness; steadiness; constancy; determination. 4. That which is resolved or determined; a settled purpose;

I personally love the definition of resolution, because it is a close definition to how I would explain my faith.  Faith is not just a noun, but it is an action verb!  Faith is having a strong belief in something and then acting on that belief.  To make a resolution is a call to action! We must take action by first believing that we can change and then making a firm and determined decision to do things differently toward that change.

Okay, now it is my turn to be brutally honest! I am going to be very transparent.  I have been like these “pretty little trash cans.”  I am constantly doing an examination of my life to see if my motives are pure.  They have not always been pure, and my heart has not always been kind toward others! I sometimes let things fly out of my mouth and when that happens, I am surprised myself.  I have literally said, “Where in the world did that even come from?  I didn’t think that was even in my heart!” I might have dressed myself all “pretty on the outside” but on the inside there was something that I needed to deal with. According to the Scripture in Luke 6:45 (KJV) For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.    If we listen to what comes out of our mouths, it is a sure-fire way to see what is in our hearts!  If we are kind and speak words of encouragement and love than our hearts are in good shape, but if our words are always full of bitterness, hurtful and resentment than “trash” needs to be dragged to the curb. It only takes us to hear our own words to know what is in our hearts! Maybe you are kind to others, but you speak badly about yourself!  What is in your heart?  Once you identify the problem it is a matter of making a decision by faith that with the Lord’s help you are going to change. Because I am a Christian, I make resolutions by faith. I then search the word of God and find out what He says about my situation.  I try to make my decisions based on Scripture and by acting on what the Lord has already done for me.

Now, maybe what you have to change in your life would not be classified as “trash”, maybe you just need to make some small adjustments to help you be better, however I would say to you that if what needs to change is constantly hindering you or causing you to not be happy, or causing hurtful, harmful things to happen, then it is time to truly make a determined life choice.  It’s time to resolve or act to implement what it takes to change!  If it is not benefitting you, then resolve to throw it out, resolve to get rid of it, drag it to the curb. I also realize that I am making it sound rather easy, which believe me, I do not mean to make our actions of change sound like a walk in the park!  There is a saying that “nothing in life worth having is free!”  Let me encourage you dear friend, it will cost you something to resolve to change, but always remember that Jesus already paid the full price to help you and I to obtain the changes that we desire!

Blessings to you in 2015!  I would love to hear from you so that we can rejoice together about the changes that have been made in your life!  As I continue to write this year, I am sure that I will be rejoicing and sharing mine with you as well!
